A few months ago I recommend the app Insight Timer as a sleep aid. I usually go for the stories that are just boring, made-up nonsense. “Standing on the train station platform… you see the lights of the approaching train… as you stand in the drizzling rain…” and boom I’m out.

But then I stumbled on something new: a dude calmly narrating his recent trip to Hawaii. You’d think that might be too interesting to fall asleep to, but never fear. He talked mostly about rocks.

Which lead me to wonder, how did this guy end up on this app? Did his friends say “You know where this story would really kill? On an app designed to put people to sleep.” Also, I checked, there are more trip logs. Norway, Peru, etc.

I’ll probably listen to them all.

Seven Dials Mystery (Movie)

A book-to-screen Agatha Christie adaptation in which a young man’s murder uncovers a secret society and a dangerous political conspiracy.

I binged this series the moment I got short-term access to Netflix. The pacing was tight and it kept me hooked from start to finish. The casting was also great, and I was soooo proud of myself for calling all but one of the twists. It also felt like they left the door open for a sequel which I totally wouldn’t mind.

People We Meet on Vacation (Movie)

A book-to-movie adaptation following two longtime friends whose annual vacations blur the line between friendship and love as unresolved feelings resurface.

Look, nothing’s going to top the book (especially when a few of my favorite moments didn’t make the cut.) But this was a really sweet take on my favorite Emily Henry story. I actually loved seeing it come to life. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to picture Tom Blyth as anything but a villain after Hunger Games, but he mostly won me over with his shy, endearing energy.

What do you need to fall asleep?

  • Snood. Honestly, I’m feeling really justified that this has been on my list of crochet projects. 🧣

  • Zoo Storage. I came across this while searching for a totally different storage solution, and it’s turned out to be perfect for our way-too-many stuffies. Plus, it’s genuinely fun to say, “Please put Hobbes back in the zoo” during cleanup. 🦘

  • Minties. These are the best dog treats. Good for their teeth, helps settle sensitive tummies, and last longer than a quick chomp. 🍃

  • Fabric. Like an AI Notion/Google Drive/Pinterest? I’m intrigued. 🎛️
